How a pandemic, a tragedy, and a lot of love started it all!

Located in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia, Canada. Mayhem Motifs is a home based business with the love and passion of creating unique gifts.

Business owner, Sigrun, started the business during the pandemic shut downs after having lost her job during the first shut down. Having found herself with more time on her hands and 0 hobbies at the time she started to do the typical "doom" scroll through social media when something caught her interest. Epoxy resin. After watching hours upon hours of reels and Youtube videos of how it was created, how to properly pour, the difference between alcohol dyes and Mica powder colours, with one simple order from Amazon, it began. 

After a few years of creating, hand painting, molding, hand pouring items and art (with the help of her very talented artist partner) she decided to venture out of the realm of resin into the vast world of fiber art. The next year started with knitting, which was challenging to start, then the next following year led to crochet. 

Does anyone else remember the "pur-kins?" It started with the desire to add the cute spooky crochet item to Sigrun's collection of spooky related stuffies at home. Then it kept rolling from there. 

At the beginning of 2024, tragedy struck and changed Sigrun's life as she knew it. With her partner going through a life altering medical event that left him in the ICU for 3 months and 4 months additionally in hospital (3 different hospitals far from home), life changed for both of them forever. During tough moments and dark days, Sigrun found the one small passion of hers' helped her keep her sanity during the nightmare that consumed their lives. Crochet. The methodical techniques and motions helped her keep her mind and emotions together as she developed her skills all while she sat at the bedside of her loved one. Blankets, bags, stuffies, even items that helped inside the hospital room (Need a great spot to put your phone while in a hospital bed? You can just make one!). Nothing is more comforting than a handmade blanket for your loved one while going through dialysis or in a cold hospital room. This is where it truly blossomed and became almost as essential as the air she breathed. 

With a lot of luck and a lot of hard effort from the wonderful medical teams of the hospitals, they're home and on the mend to recovery. <3 

Now finally establishing "Mayhem Motifs" in the beginning of 2025, Our goal is to create unique items that others would love to add to their homes and collections. Made with the passion of creating things by hand and every minute with love, let us help create something spooky or "different" for you and your loved ones!
